DG04 is the largest amphibious exercise for NATO this year, and whilst not all participating forces are assigned to the NRF, the exercise will serve as the venue for demonstrating the Initial Operational Capability of the NATO Response Force (NRF).

It is a live-firing training exercise comprised of elements of the NRF 3 forces along with Maritime and Amphibious forces affiliated with STRIKFORNATO. The exercise involves approximately 9,500 personnel, 47 ships and 46 aircraft from 11 NATO nations. Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States are providing high-readiness forces to the exercise, able to conduct peace support, crisis response or defence operations.

Live exercises like DG04, provide opportunities to maintain NATO troops’ readiness to respond immediately to any crisis. DG04 is designed to improve NATO’s capability to conduct multinational amphibious and maritime power projection/crisis-response operations, therefore improving inter-operability for amphibious, land, sea and air activities.
